Nothing beats making a trip to the windmills by water, and the best way to do that is by using the Waterbus. Take your bicycle with you as you hop on board in Rotterdam or Dordrecht, and set sail for Kinderdijk while you enjoy the stunning views of the rivers that made Holland what it is today.
At Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage, everything revolves around the water. Hop aboard the Waterbus – a form of public transport- for a beautiful boat trip to the windmills. Bring your bike for free!
Line 20 and 21
Anyone traveling from Rotterdam or Dordrecht to Kinderdijk by Waterbus has a few options:
Directly to Kinderdijk
From Rotterdam it is possible to sail directly to Kinderdijk from the Erasmus Bridge with Line 21 . With this route you arrive at the windmills in about half an hour.
Please note: from May 19, 2022, Line 21 is temporarily out of service. See the option “Transfer Ridderkerk” below as alternative.
Transfer Ridderkerk
With Line 20 from Rotterdam or Dordrecht, change at the Schans stop in Ridderkerk to the ‘Driehoeksveer‘. From there you are in Kinderdijk within a few minutes. Please note: the ‘Driehoeksveer’ is not part of the Waterbus, you will need to buy a separate ticket here.
Stop at Kade Alblasserdam
Only if you bring a bike with you, disembarking at the stop Kade in Alblasserdam (Line 20) is an option. From there it is a fifteen minute bike ride to the entrance of the windmill area.
