The Kinderdijk Windmill Adventures of Fien and Teun

Molenwaard Adventure Farm and the Kinderdijk World Heritage Foundation are publishing the joint release of an all-new children’s book. Fien & Teun and the Marvellous Mills of Kinderdijk is hitting the shelves today.

Fien & Teun and the Marvellous Mills of Kinderdijk came about through a shared outlook on children’s education about the Dutch polder landscape, a subject on which the Kinderdijk World Heritage Foundation (SWEK) and Van Hoorne Entertainment wholeheartedly agree. “It’s such a wonderful collaboration”, states Van Hoorne Entertainment and Molenwaard Adventure Farm director Michael van Hoorne. “We are proud to have found this local partner to work with in telling children the exceptional story of these windmills, allowing us to spread some awareness when it comes to the power of water and the wonders of Dutch country life.”

Educational

Jeanet de Jong (SWEK): “It’s a fun and educational story to read to your children. This is a collaborative effort that we would love to keep expanding.” For this special occasion, the cheerful farmer’s couple – familiar faces for many families by now – came down to Kinderdijk in person to witness today’s book release. Appropriately, the occasion took place on the millyard of the Blokweer museum windmill, which is the scene of a major part of the story.

The story

It’s snowing! Snowflakes drift down from the sky. Fien and Teun are playing out in the snow. Suddenly, Fien feels an icy cold drop of water land right on the back of her neck. But wait – what does that cold drop of water have to do with the windmills? As the cheerful tale unfolds, children join Fien and Teun as they discover all there is to know about snow, water, and the mills of Kinderdijk.

Fien & Teun and the marvellous mills of Kinderdijk is due to appear in an English translation to complement its Dutch release. The story was written by Rene Noorderveen, featuring illustrations by Annet van de Vorst. Ideally suited for reading to your children, the book is available at €10.90 from bookstores nationwide, as well at the souvenir shops of Kinderdijk World Heritage and Molenwaard Adventure Farm.
