Illumination Week: the 50th edition!
We are preparing for a special edition of the Illumination Week: this year is the fiftieth edition. From Friday 2 to Saturday 10 September 2022, the Kinderdijk windmills will be in the spotlights every evening (with the exception of Sunday 4 September) during the Illumination Week.
The mills light up like beacons in the darkness when all nineteen are literally put in the spotlight. Below you will find an overview of the activities during this special edition of the Illumination Week.
Step aboard
From Friday 2 till Saturday 10 September you can admire the illuminated mills every evening up close on board our tour boat (with the exception of Sunday 4 September). You can easily order tickets online. This way you are guaranteed a spot on board! The Kinderdijk-cafe and the Giftshop are also open every evening for a snack and a nice souvenir. On Wednesday 7 September you will find the local beer brewery De Kinderdijkse Kater on the terrace of the café. Come and taste the beer that they have specially brewed for the fiftieth edition of the Illumination Week.
Delta concerts
The first edition of the Delta Concerts will be held at the unique location of Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 September. A special musical experience in nature with the illuminated windmills in the background. Friday evening, 2 September, is for invited guests only, but tickets for the afternoon and/or evening program on Saturday 3 September are for sale at www.deltaconcerten.nl.
In a whole different light
The Blokkerse Wip will stand out from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 September. You can’t miss which mill that is on these days! Not only is the mill put in a different light, we also turn on the super smoker. Listen to the miller’s stories while enjoying a snack and a drink.
Strolling over the Molenmarkt
This year the beloved Molenmarkt, organized by the volunteers of Playground Association ‘t Balkengat in Kinderdijk, will take place on Saturday 10 September at our World Heritage Site. Come and stroll over the Molenmarkt from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are several stalls with local and diverse products around the entrance of the World Heritage Site.
