49th edition of the Kinderdijk Illumination Week

From Monday 6 to Saturday 11 September the nineteen windmills of Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage will be illuminated from 8 pm to 10.30 pm during the 49th edition of the Illumination Week.

A visit to the World Heritage Site is already impressive during the day, but in the evenings during our annual Illumination Week it is absolutely enchanting! Every year, visitors from all over the country enjoy this special spectacle.

Cruise along the windmills

From Monday to Saturday, every evening two tour boats will sail past the windmills . Tickets are available at the counter in the Visitors Centre during the Illumination Week. The Kinderdijk-cafe and Giftshop inside our Visitors Centre are also open until 10.30 pm for a snack and a nice souvenir.

Parking

We expect visitors to respect the 1,5 meters distance rule. There are people walking around to ensure this. The health of our guests, employees and residents is our main priority at all times. Enjoying this unique part of Holland is perfectly doable while keeping some distance from each other, even if you are taking a picture. Unfortunately, the organizing Playground ‘t Balkengat has decided to also cancel this year’s traditional Molenmarkt on Friday evening. However, there will be a mini market at the playground on 10 September.

In our original message it was stated that the Molenmarkt was canceled at all, this information was not correct.

Parking

The shuttle buses between Alblasserdam and Kinderdijk do not run during the evening, therefore parking is possible from 6 pm at the Royal IHC car park. There is a (paid) parking space for the disabled at the Visitors Centre in Kinderdijk.
