The windmill can really use a bit of a brushup, as the structure is affected by serious moisture problems. The main focus of the restoration work will be on the brickwork and the joints between the bricks. The repairs are expected to commence over the course of this year, and will take about six months overall, depending on the severity of winter conditions.

This illustrates the importance of investing in heritage

Today, Dutch Education, Culture, and Science Minister Mrs. Van Engelshoven announced that a total amount of 34 million euros will be made available this year for restauration of (national) monuments, windmill maintenance, and mobile heritage. This grand total includes 3.5 million euros intended for work on about fifty windmills located throughout the Netherlands. Van Engelshoven: “Churches, windmills, farms, and country estates provide a face for the tales that characterise our villages, our cities, and our country. This illustrates the importance of investing in heritage, in order to keep these sites attractive to residents and visitors alike.”
