Illumination Week: the 50th edition!
From September 2 to September 10, 2022, our windmills will be in the spotlight every evening (with the exception of Sunday September 4) during our enchanting Illumination Week. Come and dream away in a Dutch fairytale landscape, gazing at the glittering reflection of our illuminated mills on the water.
This year the windmills are illuminated for an extra long time!
This year is the 50th edition of the Illumination Week! The mills light up like beacons in the darkness, because we literally put all 19 of them in the spotlight. Come and taste the atmosphere, because you can’t see and experience such a beautiful spectacle anywhere else in the world. Below you will find an overview of the activities during Illumination Week 2022.
Boat tour
Would you like to admire the illuminated windmills up close? This is best done on board our tour boat. A ticket includes a voucher for a drink in the Kinderdijk-cafe and an onboard host who will tell you all about the history of Kinderdijk. You can easily order tickets online. This way you are guaranteed a spot on board!

Delta concerts
The first edition of the Delta Concerts will be held at the unique location of Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage.
Nature, water and heritage are the sources of inspiration for the programming of the Delta concerts.

Discover a new form of refreshment. Today the Kinderdijk duo Huibert and Rick are in the Kinderdijk-cafe with a new beer.

In a whole different light
Today you really have to visit the Blokkerse Wip. Which mill? This evening, you can't miss it...
The mill is not only put in a different light, we also turn on the super smoker! Listen to the miller's stories while enjoying a snack and a drink. We'll make it a fun evening!
Mill market
Come and stroll the annual Mill market. From 10 am till 5 pm there are various stalls with local and diverse products.
And this year, the mill market is at our World Heritage Site!
Something to eat & drink in the Kinderdijk-cafe
Start your visit to the illuminated mills with a cup of coffee or tea and finish with a drink and a snack.
Monday to Thursday the cafe is open until 5.30 pm and from 7.45 pm until 11 pm, Friday and Saturday the café is open all day until 11.30 pm.
Have you bought a ticket for the tour boat? On presentation of your ticket, the first drink is on us!
Parking options
During the Illumination Week, parking is arranged slightly different than when you visit the World Heritage during the day. Be prepared and read all the options here.
